Alcohol

Allah SWT said in Surah Al Imran verse 104: (And let there be arising from you a nation inviting to all that is good, enjoying what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful).

In this regards I would like to talk today to you about an issue which is old and new at the same time, an issue which affects the individual, the family and the whole of society. An issue, which according to all the statistical studies is affecting millions of people in the work place, in the family and also in relation to crime and health. The Prophet (p.b.u.h..) described this issue in the following hadith by saying: (Alcohol is the mother of all evils and it is the most shameful of evils). Alcohol occupies the life of the individual and the society and destroys that life. Take one through unbearable hell and creates a passion for all kinds of crime, such as murder, rape and so on.

Before I talk about the consequences and implications of such a sin, I would like to tell you the following story which was narrated by Ibn Rajab Alhanbali in hadith: There once lived a man who used to devote his time for worship and keep away from people, and one time a woman wanted him to drag him towards evil, so she sent to him her servant telling him that my master wants him to be witness on something, the man came to the palace and the woman took him into her private quarters and revealed to him certain things, she was no doubt very beautiful. She told him that I called you to ask you to either burn this book (Holy Book), kill the boy who was next to her, bow to the cross, to have Zzinna (adultery) with her, or to take a glass of wine, or otherwise she will disclose his presence here by shouting for everybody to hear. He thought about it and found that the least harmful thing he could do was to drink alcohol. When he started drinking, he asked for more and then as a result of intoxication he committed adultery with her, killed the child and burned the book and then bowed to the cross. So avoid alcohol as there is no way that the faith and alcohol (addiction to alcohol) could be together in the heart of one person, one of them has to leave his heart. Brothers and Sisters I do not want to talk a lot about the verses in the Qur’an and hadith which talks about the prohibition of alcohol, as you all know enough about the Qur’an and hadith in relation to this issue.

There is no doubt in Qur’an, Sunna and with the right mind faithful and wise person, that alcohol is a harmful thing, but I want to talk about the consequences and the implications of this bad habit. Today I will be concentrating on those implications between the individual and Allah, leaving those of this live to other khutbah The first implication is removing the faith and the Eeman from the heart of the Muslim as the Prophet p.b.u.h. said: 1st (When one drinks Khamr, he is not a believer), (If a person addicted to Khamr dies, he dies like an idolater Kafir) The more the one prefers alcohol, the less the faithful will be, and the more the one will be not in control of his natural behavior. The second one is the curse of Allah SWT, the prophet p.b.u.h.. said (if any one drink Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him). The third one is his Prayers and his Repentance will not be accepted as the prophet p.b.u.h. said: (if anyone drink Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, if he dies he will go to hell and if he repents Allah will forgive him) and also said (Allah will not accept repentance from him for forty days). The forth one will be drinking of the sadid (vomit) of the people of hell fire, were the prophet p.b.u.h. says: (it is incumbent upon Allah SW to make the one drink Khamr drink the pus and blood which flow from the inhabitants of the Fire) The Fifth one will be thirsty in the Day of Judgment, the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said in the hadith (the one who drink Khamr come to Allah SW thirsty at the day of Judgment). The sixth one is drinking alcohol in dunya will stop you from drinking alcohol in Akhira as the prophet p.b.u.h. said: (Whoever drinks Khamr in this world, it will be prohibited to him in the hereafter) and another hadith (The lords has sworn by His honor, that non of my slaves gives Khamr up, fearing Me, without My giving him to drink of Paradise in the company of sincere repenters)

Brothers and Sisters. Those are some of the implications, which the drinking of alcohol can bring to your deen and to your life. We will have another talk on this issue insha Allah.
