The following is a brief summary of the rites of Hajj & Umra:

* Making ghusl, wearing perfumes and putting on the ihram garb (for men).

* Women wear usual clothes, which islam allows.

* Making ihram with hajj, umrah, or both of them from miqat.

* Praying two rak’ahs.

* Saying talbiah as much as possible.

* On reaching the holy mosque, one touches and kisses the black stone if he can, and makes the tawaf seven rounds putting the black stone on his left jogging in the first three rounds (jogging is only for men).

* After tawaf, praying two rak’ahs in the place of Ibrahim if it is possible. If not, then in any other place.

* Making sa’i between safa and marwa starting from safa. Sa’i from safa to marwa is one round and back from marwa to safa is another round.

* After clipping the hair short or shaving it all, umrah is completed and everything including women becomes lawful to the pilgrims for tamattu. As for the pilgrims of ifrad and qiran, they remain their state of ihram.

* On the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims of tamattu make ihram, go to mina and pray dhuhr, asr, maghrib, isha and fajr shortened but not gathered.

* On the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, the pilgrims go up in arafah and pray dhuhr and asr gathered and shortened and spend their time on the remembrance of Allah.

* After the sunset of the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, the pilgrims go to muzdalefah and pray maghrib and isha gathered

and shortened and stay overnight there and pray the fajr of the tenth day.

* On the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah (yawmun-nahr), the pilgrims leave muzdalefah for mina before the sunrise.

The deeds of this day are:
1- Throwing seven pebbles of jamrat al-aqabah.
2- Clipping the hair short or shaving it all.
3- Slaughtering hadi.
4- Making tawaf al-ifadah.
5- Making sa’i, for the pilgrims of ifrad and qiran who didn’t make it. There is no wrong on those who do not follow the sequence of those duties.

* On the eleventh day of Dhul-Hijjah, the pilgrims throw the pebbles at the three jamrahs, seven pebbles on each, and make supplications after the small and the middle and leave after the big. Throwing should be after midday till sunset. Throwing before this time is allowed for good reasons.

* On the twelfth day of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims throw like the day before. If a pilgrim wants to leave, he must leave before the sunset.

* On the thirteenth day of Dhul-Hijjah, the pilgrims throw the pebbles and leave for Maccah to make the farewell tawaf and leave Maccah.
