Blessings of Ramadan
Home » Articles » About Ramadan » Blessings of RamadanPraise is to Allah, we still are under the shade of the Ramadan’s blessed breeze, still quenching our thirst from this sweet fountain, and learning from this wonderful institution that brings benefit for us in this life and the next.
Previously we saw how Ramadan trains in us to be aware of Allah, to
be serious in obedience and worship as well as being aware of his time
which the most precious thing that one owns.
One of the other lessons that one learns in Ramadan is that it nurtures
in a person the concept of giving and being open handed as a cure to
miserliness and being tight fisted.
Indeed the Qumran has warned us about the dangers of miserliness and has described it as the quality of the hypocrites.
In the description of the Ansar, and what they sacrificed for their brothers from the Muhajiroon.
Those who had homes before them (in Medina and had already adopted
the faith, they love those who come to them as migrants, and they do not
find in their selves a need from what they have given, they prefer
their brothers over themselves . And whoever, shuns the avarice of his
self, they are the successful ones.”
Also in the sound narration, according to Abu Hurairah, the Prophet
(P.B.U.H.) made it as one of the seven deadly sins, “Shun the seven
deadly sins, it was said to the Prophet (saw) and what are they, he
said, ‘Association of partners with Allah, miserliness, Killing of soul
except what is due according to the Shariah, the consumption of Usury,
the consumption of the orphans wealth, fleeing from the field of battle
and the slandering of a righteous man or woman with adultery.
Like wise the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) made it clear that the harm of miserliness is manifold: “Keep away from oppression, for on the day of judgement it will shroud one in a pit of darkness, and beware of miserliness, for indeed it destroyed those who came before you.”
Ramadan gives practical training to the soul to heal it from this illness, and son in Ramadan we are encouraged to feed the fasting person –indeed such a person is forgiven his sins, delivered from the fire of hell and is given the reword of the fasting person without anything being removed from his own reward. Likewise our beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H.) who we are encouraged to follow was the most generous this month over all other months. Also towards the end of Ramadan –one of the rites involve the charity of Fitr as a means of purifying your fast from all deficiencies.
There are many righteous people who extract their Zakah in this
month, likewise many of the poor around the World wait in anticipation
for this month. As Muslims we will be responsible regarding all the
people who are dying around the world from poverty and hunger, if we are
spending money on superfluous items
The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, spend of the things that Allah has set you in charge over.”
The Prophet (P.B.U.H.) also said, there is no day in which a slave of
Allah’s wakes up except that an angel will say, “oh Allah give more to
the one who spends of his wealth and oh Allah destroy the wealth of the
miser.” The Prophet (P.B.U.H.), spoke of our rights regarding what we
own, “the son of Adam says, “my money, My Money,” but oh son of Adam is
there anything left of your money except, the food in which you have
consumed it, or the clothes that you have used or the charity which you
gave and that has remained.
Thus dear Brothers and sisters, extract
your Zakah which is due on you once the quota on which you pay Zakah has
been reached and once a year has passed since you last paid Zakah.
Indeed the Our often mentions Zakah and Salah together in the same
verse, likewise AbuBakr said regarding those who refused to pay Zakah,
indeed I will fight against the rebels who distinguishes between Zakah
and Salah.
Finally we leave with the Hadith of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.):
None of you gives of his good wealth, (and Allah only excepts what is good) except that Allah will take it and place it on his right hand, Even if this be a date, it will grow in the palm of Allah till it is larger than a mountain, just like one of you may rear cattle and watch it grow.”
Perhaps this may shield us from the fire, as the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, “whoever can shield himself form the fire, then he should do so even with half a date.”
