The execitement was palpable as the Irish tricolor was raised  and  a reading of the school's Proclamation for a New Generation, which sets out the vision and ideals of the Generation of 2016.  This was followed by spirited rendition of Ireland's National Anthem.  Sixteen students held up the names of  the 16 leaders of the 1916 Rising. All the primary schools in the country received their copies of the Proclamation and the national flag from members of the Defence Forces over the last six months.  Arts Minister Heather Humphreys described Proclamation Day as a once in a generation occasion and a culmination of months of work by teachers, parents and pupils, who had "so eagerly embraced the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme".
