The Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland held its annual conference on 2nd May 2015 under the title of “Islam & Societal Security”. The Conference was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall at ICCI and it was facilitated by contributions from highly experience speakers who were internationally renowned in their fields. The speakers shared their knowledge, expertise and experiences on the given topic and related issues.
This year’s the topic was one of topical importance and it was addressed in a straight-forward understandable manner by the speakers on the day. The opening of the event was in typical customary manner with a recitation of an excerpt from the Holy Quran (Al-Hujurat chapter, verses 11-12) by young Shamsuddin Al-Refae, a male student of the Nurul Huda Quran School at the ICCI. His recitation was inspiring.
Sheikh Hussein Halawa, the Imam of the ICCI welcomed the speakers and guests on behalf of the Management and staff of the Centre. He paid special tribute to the two guest speakers; Prof. Jamal Badawi* from Canada and Dr Abdul Hai Yousuf** from Sudan.
Sheikh Hussein’s talk was followed by the guest speakers’ talks. Four interactive talks were delivered in the conference followed by a panel discussion at the end of the day. The first talk delivered by Prof. Jamal Badawi was titled “Islam and the Human Security followed by Sheikh AbdulhaiYousuf’s first talk “The Family and the Psychological Security (An Islamic Prospective)”. In the afternoon two more talks were delivered; The impact of the divine Values on the psychological and Societal Security by prof. Jamal Badawi and “The impact of worship and Ethical manners on the psychological and Societal security” by Dr Abdulhai Yousuf. Sheikh Hussein Halawa then chaired a panel discussion with the guest speakers and Imam Yahya Al-Hussain, the Imam of Dublin Mosque, throughout which many questions were posed by the attendees and answered accordingly.
The day was drawn to a close when Sheikh Hussein Halawa (Imam ICCI) presented the guest speakers as well as Imam Yahya each with a specially commissioned piece of Crystal as token of appreciation for their contribution to the Conference.
