From the 8th of May till the 4th of June the ICCI Youth Club ran its Ramadan Program 2019 for boys 13-17 years of age on Wednesdays and Thursdays from Duhr till Asr prayer and on Fridays and Saturdays from Asr till Taraweeh prayer every week for the entire month. We had 16 full days of reminders, games, quality time and Iftars together.
The first Friday of Ramadan after breaking fast and preparing for Taraweeh, was a very sad one for us and all the community. We received the news that our brother and our friend had been killed. It was very unique experience for everyone, a sad one, and also a hopeful one, knowing that Azzam may Allah have mercy on him, had this special relation with Allah, we prayed that he is granted the highest level of Paradise. We united together, feeling for each other, grieving with each other, helping and supporting one another on the very next day after receiving the news and throughout all of this tragedy. It was a difficult time for everyone, and we ask Allah to grant his family and friends strength and patience during their time of grieving.
Azzam, may Allah have mercy on him, left with us with the memory of his beautiful smile and good character and good moments spent together in our youth club alhamdulillah. We carried on with our Ramadan and our programme with the memory of Azzam’s presence during past programmes.
Overall, together with Allah’s great reminder about death, by the departing from this world by Azzam, may Allah have mercy on him, the boys bonded together over reminders, iftars and snacks, exploring and utilising the Month of Change to strengthen their connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and the Quran, which is the true spirit of Ramadan.
The Ramadan program was very rich in diverse activities and the boys had a real chance to “Explore the Spirit of Ramadan” with all the ingredients emphasised in this blessed month:
- Connecting to the Quran with knowledge and action
- Compassion by sharing and providing for the needy
- Helping and sharing in a good cause
- Strengthening friendships and having fun.
The boys had the opportunity to
- Learn and explain surah “Qaf”
- Explore and experience the Dawah info point outside the GPO
- Partake in the “Feeding the Homeless” initiative in the city centre
- Learn about and understand the “legal process of investigation and the Irish Judicial System” from our “Garda investigation info Workshop”
- Enjoy games with our own FIFA “Fasting Is For Allah” Ramadan Football Cup
- Watch the Championship final Tottenham vs Liverpool.
- Go on their own “Fast and Fasting” driving experience of Go Karting.
We had a unique Ramadan experience. May Allah accept our fasting and our deeds.
