We were delighted to welcome BUMBLEance for our Multi Cultural Day 2022. Driver Jimmy and Driver Joe showed the kids inside the BUMBLEance and told us all about the work that they do.
About BUMBLEance
Established in 2013, BUMBLEance had one vision, to provide transportation services for children affected by serious and life limiting conditions in a fun and safe environment. It is the official Children’s National Ambulance Service of Ireland. They provide safe and comfortable transportation for Ireland’s youngest patients as they travel between their homes and hospitals, hospices, treatment centres, and respite centres nationwide. The service is totally free for service users.
BUMBLEance provides this free transport service to children affected by critical and life limiting conditions. Each BUMBLEance is designed to transport families often travelling from rural areas of Ireland to the main treatment and respite centres in Dublin. Each BUMBLEance is fitted out with state-of-the-art entertainment systems to ensure each journey is as enjoyable as possible.
At BUMBLEance the goal is to deliver smiles to Ireland’s youngest patients.
Events are vital to BUMBLEance, to ensure they can cater to the ever-growing number of children around Ireland that need their service.
BUMBLEance Stats:
As an organisation BUMBLEance completes approximately 750,000km a year, equivalent to 19 trips around the equator. They service almost 160 children per calendar month, majority of which are trips to and from hospital. BUMBLEance have seen an unfortunate rise in the need for their service in recent years and are committed to helping as many children and families as possible.
- Angel Trip costs on average €400 (Angel Trips are when BUMBLEance bring a terminally ill child home one last time before they pass)
- An average one way trip is 180km
- An average return trip is 360km
- 200euro is the average cost of a 180km trip
- 400euro for a return
- Services and repairs are carried 3 to 4 times a year, each service costing 1000euro
- BUMBLEance have 9 active vehicles on the road right now under their management.
- Every 6-months new tyres are needed for each BUMBLEance - it costs €600 for one BUMBLEance every 6 months.
- BUMBLEance do on average 750,000km per year
- Each tank of fuel costs €100
- The back of each BUMBLEance is entirely kitted out with full entertainment systems to keep children calm and distracted.
- A piece of entertainment in the BUMBLEance, such as a PlayStation costs €500. Each game costing between €50 - €80.
