On Thursday 30th of January 2025, the ICCI Management and staff welcomed Inspector Ciaran Noonan and Sgt Dermot Delaney from the Garda National Diversity Office, to a roundtable meeting at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland.
At the request of the GNDU the ICCI facilitated the meeting with representatives of several Islamic Centres across Ireland with participation from the Imams Council of Ireland.
The Centres represented were from : Dublin (8 Centres), Waterford, Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Kildare. This meeting was a first in what we perceive to be a series of similar meetings that will enhance the engagement between our community and the Garda Siochana.
The CEO of ICCI welcomed everyone and initiated the meeting in a confident manner, encouraging full participation from our guests. The aim of the meeting was to develop stronger relationships across the country with the Garda Siochana and in particular with Diversity/Community Gardai.
Throughout the meeting ideas were shared that will guide toward improvement of already established relationships, and concerns were heard by the Gardai regarding the Muslim community & some Islamic Centres.
The ICCI and the representatives present are grateful for this initiative taken by GNDU and we are looking forward to further engagement.
