Our Multi Cultural Day took place on Saturday March 23rd, the last day for the International Week Against Racism. The rain stayed off, the weather was bright and mild and we had a great day with community members and people of different faiths and nationalities popping by to take part! Assistant Commissioner Orla McPartlin visited the Centre and met with senior staff before taking a walk around the grounds and viewing the activities. An Cathaoirleach Cllr Ossian Smyth joined us and took a tour of the activities with one of our youth volunteers. Richard Boyd Barrett (People Before Profit), Grainne Ferris (Sinn Fein), Rachael Prendergast-Spollen (People Before Profit local election candidate for Stillorgan) and Sara O'Rourke joined us also.
At 2pm, it was announced that all activities stop with a few moments reflection and prayer by Sheikh Hussein for those who lost their lives in Christchurch, New Zealand. Everyone stood in solidarity listening, during this time.
Many thanks to everyone who attended and made it a memorable day for all. A special thanks goes to the following:
- ICCI staff and youth volunteers who without their hard work, we would not have been able to organise this day.
- Dublin Fire Brigade from Donnybrook: the fire team gave the children a great time with the water hose and many a small child had their dream come true when they got to sit in the engine wearing the fire helmet and hearing the siren.
- An Garda Siochana: their football team did their best to win, but the overall winners were Algeria. The Garda mounted unit and dog unit went down a treat. Their information stand allowed people to approach and ask questions. There were also a few keep sakes given out to the children.
- http://www.marvellousfaces.com/ : for the face painting and balloon Modelers.
- http://theanimalroadshow.com/ : for driving all the way from Cork and providing a wonderful informative display with their animals.
