WHY 21 MARCH?

The General Assembly of the United Nations declared 21 March the International Day for the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination. This day was implemented as a reaction to the brutal murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville (South Africa) in 1960. Apartheid was a legal system of systematic racial segregation and inequality enforced by the government of South Africa from 1948 up to 1990.

Emerald Isle – United in Diversity

Diversity has given much to Irish society. In every county of our Emerald Isle, people of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds live, work and play together to build communities and enrich each other’s lives. It seems clear that diversity is the future, and in that diversity we emerge stronger and more united as a nation, indeed as humanity. However, the unfortunate events of  the past year have left many anxious and gripped by fear. With racism and xenophobia notably on the rise, it is now more important than ever to stand up for diversity and defend the common human values of respect for human rights and human dignity. Diversity is a source of strength. So join us at the ICCI on 12 March and play your part in shaping a harmonious, vibrant and united nation.
