For us at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, Multicultural Day is about building bridges and breaking barriers which enable us to celebrate our common humanity. And if this was a test, we passed with a distinction. This day is our contribution to European wide effort to combat racism weekagainstracism.eu/ , in which we highlight that there is more that unites us than what divides us. The intercations on the ICCI's grounds gave life to that expression. But it is important to stress that our efforts in this regard are not confined to this week, but rather something that is more sustained. As the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, we are encouraged by the large turnout, but more so in the manner in which Dubliners from varied backgrounds enjoyed each other's company, food and culture.
I can try to tell tyou what was on offer and how people enjoyed and reacted, but in this instance that just would not suffice. To get a feel and taste of the event, watch the video and enjoy the images which captures the essence of the occasion best. Very often, a picture tells a story just as well as, if not better than, a lot of written words. A picture is really worth a thousand words.
