A visibly emotional ICCI CEO, Dr Nooh Al Kaddo led the way, describing him as a friend and advisor and that Haj’s departure will be a big loss not just on a professional level but on a personal one too. Dr Nooh said that no major decision at the ICCI was taken without Abdelhafid’s input. He said Haj was his best critic, honest friend, reliable teammate and dependable colleague whose knowledge and experience was beyond par.
The Imam of the ICCI, Sheikh Hussein Halawa, took a different approach. He said the best way to get to know the character of a man was to see that person’s reaction in times of anger and in times of peace; in times of sadness and in times of happiness. Then the Sheikh said, you have travel with that person, dine with him, visit him and be visited by him. It is only then that a true picture will emerge. In the case of Haj, Sheikh Halawa said, you find a truly remarkable man, a patient man, a sincere man, a dedicated man. That is Haj, Sheikh Halawa concluded, “And I will pray for him and his family.”
Sister Summaya Kenna, who head the ICCI’s Community Welfare Department said that although he was leaving, Haj’s morals, ethics and advice will always remain in the centre. Dr Ali Salem described Haj as an uncle-like figure who was always accessible and has over the years proved to be an inspirational colleague.
Dr Nooh perhaps summed it up aptly when he said that Haj's resignation is a cruel reminder that all good things in life must come to an end. Holding back the tears, Dr Nooh said Haj may have stopped being a colleague, but will always remain a friend.
“O Allah, we beg you to grant Haj health, success followed by more success, mercy and healing, your satisfaction and your forgiveness.” Ameen
