The last meeting of the trustees of the Irish Council of Imams for 2011 took place on Saturday 31stDecember 2011 at the ICC.
Present was the Chairman, Sheikh Hussain Halawa (Islamic Cultural Centre), Sheikh Yahya Al-Hussain (Islamic Foundation of Ireland), Sheikh Abu Anas (Waterford mosque), Sheikh Abdullah (Limerick mosque), Sheikh Ibrahim Ndure (Kilkenny mosque) and Sheikh Kamel Hafid (Naas mosque).
After Sheikh Ibrahim Ndure recited some verses of Surah Al Baqara, Sheikh Hussain Halawa asked Sheikh Abu Anas to chair the meeting, in which the following issues were discussed.
1- Reforming the Council by implementing the suggestions of the Trustees.
2- Organising intensive courses for Imams throughout the year.
3- Launching the website of the Irish Council of Imams.
4- Scheduling regular meetings of the Council and the Secretariat.
5- Devising a "Work Map" for the next 5 years.
6- Establishing various sub-committees within the Council.
7- Holding events to interact with the Muslim community in Ireland.
8- Issuing a "News Bulletin" of the Council.
9- Holding a Charity dinner.
A discussion of these issues lasted almost three hours, during which time the following issues were resolved.
Resolutions:
1- Ensure that the Muslim community in Ireland is more aware of the Irish Council of Imams.
2- Hold intensive courses (a minimum of three courses) on how to deliver sermons.
3- Create a website within three months.
4- Award a scholarship at Al-Azhar University to 5 people on an annual basis, however applicants must have Irish nationality.
5- Set up a newsletter to serve as the voice of the Council.
6- Create sub-committees within the council, such as Fatwa, Media, Reconciliation and Arbitration, as well as a committee to care for Muslim prisoners.
7- Organise a family camp during Easter holidays.
8- Fundraise in the form of Charity dinner on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria.
