The girls Qiyamul Layl took place on the night of October 30th. It was a beautiful night bringing the young sisters together to bond and spend time in the house of Allah. The girls registered before Ishaa so we could all pray in congregregation. It was a beautiful start to the event as we were lead in prayer by Sheikh Mustafa and listened to Surah Ar-Rahman being recited thus setting the mood for the night ahead. We also listened to Sheikh Mustafa's Seerah after prayer which touched on the story of Asma Bint Abu Bakr and how she got the nickname Dhat An-Nitaqayn (the One with Two Waistbelts). We even got to witness a brother taking his Shahadah. May Allah keep him steadfast.
Different activities were organised for the night to keep everyone busy and help the bonding of sisterhood. We started off with fun ice breakers in the sports hall. Then we had introductions and a reminder on Friendship in the seminar room, starting with the hadith: A man is upon the religion of his friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends, and the importance of not just being careful of who we surround ourselves with, but by being that good friend. Examples were given from the seerah of friendships between the Sahabah and Sahabiat. However, the greatest story of friendship ever known to humanity is of the Prophet ﷺ and the Qur’an. Aa’ishah ﮼رضياللّٰهعنه said, when asked about the prophets manners, in one narration ‘He was a walking Qur’an’ and in another ‘his manners were the Qur’an’. The girls were reminded that our guide through life should be the book of Allah and we hold onto that by surrounding ourselves with good friends who will remind us of this.
The girls had a fun treasure hunt around the mosque, and an interactive quiz. Dinner consisted of biryani (from Sr Salma), lasagne (from Sr Sabina) and pizza with sweet snacks for dessert!
Qiyam was prayed in the main prayer hall, with the girls taking turns to lead with Surah Maryam and other surah's from Juzu Tabarak. It was such a serene and Iman boosting experience for everyone, made even more special by the fact that we were praying it downstairs in the main prayer hall.
Football was also played in the event's hall for more than two hours before taking some quiet time to relax and pray Fajr prayer. The girls had a small reminder after Fajr.
Breakfast was served at 8am and the girls were treated to pancakes made by our very own sister Leila. Kudos to everyone for cleaning up and keeping the masjid clean and tidy!
May Allah reward everyone who made the Qiyam happen and those who attended. I could not have done it without my wonderful team of volunteers and helpers.
InshaAllah we hope to have another one again.
