The community welfare office of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland organised a workshop on the Irish language. We had the pleasure of having Seán Ó Murchadha from Conradh na Gaeilge back with us for an engaging workshop. We heard about some of the history of the Irish language and also learnt about the meanings behind the names of many Irish places and were surprised at how many have been anglacized. For example: Cluain Sceach (Clonskeagh) which means Meadow of the Bush and Ráth Fearnáin (Rathfarnham) which means Fort of the Elder tree.
We were treated to some home made biscuits with a cupán tae/caife, made by Sr Leila.
We are looking forward to welcoming Sean back another time to do an Irish conversation class with us. It will be very beneficial to all, especially for those who have children learning Irish in schools.
Don't miss out on the next one!
