A long standing tradition for the ICC is to hold a Muslim family retreat in April. This year, a camp at Tullow, Carlow was identified as the perfect place, with its immediate proximity to the River Slaney. The ICC negotiated a bargain rate and further reduced the price by subsidising over 20% of the cost. Places were limited and were quickly snapped up, but over 100 people attended the camp.
Members of the Islamic community arrived at the camp on 31st March, staying for a full week, during which time they swam, held many BBQs, and spent some time away from the cities enjoying themselves. Children enjoyed the playground, walking in the many excellent surrounding trails and playing sports. Golf was available in the nearby course and an indoor swimming pool in the locality was available for sisters.
Many families visited nearby attractions such as the Tullow Museum and the Chocolate Garden of Ireland as well as the local zoo and farms, the town itself, and the famous Altamont Gardens, home to many rare species of plants. Others ventured further afield, boating down the river to Wexford and surrounding locations, enjoying the picturesque scenery.
