In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

A Statement Issued by the Irish Council of Imams in Relation to COVD19 and Easing the Restrictions

All praise be to Allah and may Allah’s peace, blessings and mercy be upon our Prophet Muhammad, who has been sent as a mercy to all that exists.

As-Salamu Alaikum Warahmat-ul-Llahi Wa Barakatuh

To the brothers Imams and officials in charge in Islamic Centers in Ireland.

We praise Allah for accomplishing some of our wishes and we pray to Him to bless us by increasing His bounty and removing hardship.

In light of the decisions announced by state leaders and health officials and based on advice sought from concerned bodies and doctors and consultation with some Imams and officials in Islamic centres in relation to the most ideal situations in mosques and in order to accomplish one of the main objectives of Islam, i.e. protection of life, it has been determined that Muslims, when praying, should stand in straight rows foot to foot and shoulder to shoulder, a normal practice observed prior to the spread of the pandemic. Since the place of Sujud is the place of transmitting diseases, Muslims are obliged to continue praying on their prayer mats and wear masks when praying.

In the meantime, Muslims are urged to pray to Allah to remove this pandemic, take precautions and adhere to the guidelines issued by officials of all levels.
