Press release issued by the Irish Council of Imams on the crime of burning a copy of the Glorious Qur’an in Stockholm, Sweden
Praise be to Allah and may Allah’s peace, blessings, and mercy be upon the Prophet Muhammad, sent as a mercy to all that exists.
While European organizations and institutions representing Muslims were urging Muslims in Europe to abide by perpetual sincere work for the accomplishment of integration with various components of society and for active contribution to progress founded on cooperation, tolerance and understanding, an abrupt shock, represented in burning a copy of their revealed Holy Book the Glorious Quran perpetrated by an extremist within the hearing and the sight of the Swedish authorities, severely offended them. Such acts are deemed vile profanities by hundreds of Millions of Muslims all over the world and tens of millions of Muslims in Europe.
The ICI, while vehemently condemns, deplores and abhors such a very vile act offending all Muslims and impacting negatively on the spirit of tolerance, cooperation and harmony in societies, appeal to the European Organizations and fair-minded intellectuals to assume a serious attitude against such a repeated violation of human rights. At the same time, the ICI appeal to Muslims in Europe to adhere to peaceful legal tools and wisdom when defending their sanctities and to shun every action classified as violent or illegal.
We pray to Allah to grant success to all in relation to what pleases Him.

بيان المجلس الأيرلندي للأئمة
حول قيام أحد المتطرفين بجريمة حرق نسخة من القرآن في حماية السلطات السويدية
الحمد لله رب العالمين والصلاة والسلام على المبعوث رحمة للعالمين.وبعد،
في الوقت الذي يتداعى فيه المسلمون في أوروبا عبر ممثليهم من المؤسسات والهيئات الإسلامية إلى العمل الدؤوب الصادق على الاندماج مع سائر مكوّنات المجتمع، والإسهام الفعَّال في مسيرته الحضارية على أساس التعاون والتسامح والتفاهم؛ إذ جاءتهم صاعقة زلزلت مشاعرهم وأحاسيسهم حين قام أحد المتطرفين تحت أعين السلطات السويدية بحرق نسخة من القرآن الكريم الذي هو الكتاب المقدس للمسلمين، المنزل من عند رب العالمين، إن مثل هذه الأعمال تشكَّل اعتداءً آثما على مقدسات مئات الملايين من المسلمين في العالم وعلى عشرات الملايين منهم في أوروبا.
والمجلس الأيرلندي للأئمة إذ يدين هذا التصرف المشين، وهذه الغوغائية المقيتة، وهذا التصرّف المسيء للمسلمين كافّة، الذي من شأنه أن ينعكس سلبا على روح التسامح والتعاون والوئام بين فئات المجتمع ؛ ولذلك فإنّ المجلس: يدعو الجهات المسؤولة في أوروبا وأهل الحكمة من العقلاء والمفكّرين إلى وقفةٍ جادَّةِ تتصدى لمثل هذه الانتهاكات المتكررة والمشينة التي تنتهك حقوق الإنسان والمقدسات، كما يدعو المسلمين في أوروبا إلى التزام الحكمة في الدفاع عن مقدساتهم واتباع السبل القانونية السلمية في ذلك، والابتعاد عن كلّ ما له صلة بالعنف وتجاوز القانون.
