Press Release
The Irish Council of Imams
Date: 15th April 2022
Issue: Recent Horrific Killings in Sligo
The Irish Council of Imams vehemently condemns the killing of two innocent civilians; Mr Michael Snee and Mr Aidan Moffit, that took place in the town of Sligo recently, and further condemns the vicious attack on a third civilian by the same perpetrator.
Murder is a horrific crime that cannot be justified by any means irrespective of the alleged motive or the identity of the perpetrator.
Islam values and cherishes human life:
Chapter 32: ‘The killing of a soul unless for a soul, or for corruption done in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And Our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. The indeed, many of them, even after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. (258 – 260)
Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) said: ‘ A believer will continue to find ample scope in their religion as long as they do not kill anyone unlawfully’.
No one beholds the right to impose their beliefs on others and it is the right for all people to live a life of dignity and protection from harm.
We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the deceased victims, and we wish the injured victim a full recovery from his wounds.
We further extend our deepest sympathies to the people of Sligo who have been shocked by recent events in their locality.
We pray for peace and tranquility and unity for the people of Ireland, and we pray that all people unite in their condemnation of this horrific crime.
