By Allah’s Grace and His Assistance the Irish Council of Imams (ICI) was held in the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland on Saturday 17/04/2019, chaired by Imam Hussein Halawa and Imam Yahya Al Husain, as Deputy Chairman. It was attended by most of the members of the ICI. The attendees resumed the agenda deliberating on a number of issues pertinent to the status of their Islamic Centres. Detailed deliberation resulted in issuing a number of resolutions and recommendations which can been seen below.
Resolutions:
1. To develop a future action plan that organizes the events of the Irish Council of Imams.
2. To seek the supervision of the Garda on all events and activities of the Islamic Centres for safety.
3. Islamic centres should establish a voluntary block to supervise their activities, the worshippers during the prayers, and on every corner of the centre.
4. Set up a fund box for the Islamic centres to be used for emergency situations, and enacting of an internal regulation to regulate its activities and actions.
5. Islamic centres should support each other through scheduled donations campaigns, each of which has a role in these campaigns, with the help of charitable organizations in Ireland.
6. Organizing three Islamic courses (one or two days): a- How to wash and shroud the dead. b. On wills and inheritance. c- How to prepare for the Friday sermon.
7. The periodic meeting among the Imams should be held every three months to discuss developments in their centres.
8. Most of the attendees have agreed upon that the commencement of Ramadan and Shawwal should be returned to the two main mosques (ICCI- IFI), to organise the sighting of the new moon (crescent).
Recommendations:
1. Working together to develop joint strategies to counter the future challenges.
2. Registration of any Islamic institution in Ireland should be subject to an appropriate name, in order not to cause confusion or inconvenience to the others.
3. To establish close relations with the neighbours and invite them to participate in their activities.
4. To invite the Garda from time to time to give instructions and precautions for the safety and security of Muslims in their Islamic centres and public life.
5. The attendees recommended that the two main mosques do not dispute about the sighting of Ramadan and Shawwal Crescent in order to unite the Muslims in Ireland.
